The Tax Analyst position is involved in all aspects of domestic transaction tax compliance and research, ensuring that MOD is in compliance with local, state, and federal laws. This includes collecting and preparing tax data, reviewing returns, and maintaining records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file local and state gross receipts, sales and use tax returns;
  • Provide support for property tax filings and payments to outside provider;
  • Manage new store registrations for sales and use tax;
  • Assist with responding to federal and state and local notices;
  • Assist with fixed asset reconciliations and tax depreciation for returns;
  • Provide support for audits of state and local filings;
  • Coordinate account reconciliation process with Accounting;
  • Apply tax laws and regulations to support tax return positions, audit defense, tax planning, etc.;
  • Communicate and develop relationship with business operations, accounting, legal, HR and IT teams as well as outside consultants.
  • Organize, plan and schedule meetings and appointments.
  • Assist in maintaining and organizing various tax requests.
  • Maintain office supplies for the Tax Department.
  • Maintain and manage tax filing system (electronic and hard copy).
  • Research projects as necessary.
  • Assist with other administrative projects as assigned and perform ad hoc duties as necessary.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of relevant tax experience
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills, motivation and confidence to independently address issues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Similar tax experience in a Restaurant or Retail organization

Physical Requirements

Office work involves remaining in a stationary position most of the time in front of a computer, using a keyboard, mouse and telephone. Regularly operate a computer and other office equipment. Occasionally move about the work site to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc. Exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or regularly move objects. Communicate and exchange information with co-workers and other individuals in person and electronically.
